How do you define a duel?

The new temporary exhibition "Duels. The Art of Combat" at the Musée de l'Armée - Hôtel national des Invalides in Paris attempts to answer this question by exploring the way in which single combat is found in civil and military societies, across the ages and on several continents.

Accompanied by a tour guide, the exhibition will give you a better understanding of some of the heroic figures of the duellists, the participants in duels that have been nurtured in the collective imagination by historical accounts and works of fiction. This exhibition on these unique fights, which echoes the Olympic fencing events, draws on many myths and memorable tales. From the fights of Ulysses in the Odyssey, to the superhero confrontations in comic books, or the scenes filmed by Ridley Scott pitting Le Gris against Carrouges: there are plenty of opportunities to gain a better understanding of this practice during your visit.

The exhibition is divided into five main sections to explore the phenomenon of the duel: who, where, when, why and how? Each section is illustrated by an emblematic duel to support your guide's point. During your visit, you'll also explore the diversity of this practice over time and across the globe, and see how, from warlike practices to sport and popular culture, duels have found their place in our common imagination.

Come and discover this new exhibition "Duels. The art of combat" with a guided tour of the Musée de l'Armée - Hôtel national des Invalides in Paris!
