Temporary exhibition: Richard Peduzzi. Perspective. Guided tour

His creations have left their mark on fields as diverse as architecture, furniture design, and scenography. But how can we define Richard Peduzzi’s work?

Accompanied by a tour guide, this visit to the exhibition—the first major retrospective of his lifetime—reveals five decades of work, starting in 1972. Initially trained as a painter, it was his meeting with Patrice Chéreau that led Richard Peduzzi into stage design. He conceived and created the entire set design for Chéreau’s productions, notably at the Théâtre des Amandiers and the Opéra National de Paris, as well as for several of his films, including La Reine Margot, which won five César Awards and the Jury Prize at the 1994 Cannes Film Festival.

Initially criticized but later praised for his bold artistic choices, Peduzzi's work gradually became part of the collective imagination. During this tour, the guide will highlight his multifaceted creations, combining architecture and scenography, which challenged the traditional theater productions of the time. Discover one of his greatest works, created for the centenary of Richard Wagner's Ring Cycle at the Bayreuth Festival in 1976. Although initially controversial, his scenography later found great success during the five years of performances. Peduzzi gradually turned his attention to designing exhibitions and museum spaces, notably for the Musée d’Orsay and the Louvre. From 1990 to 2002, he directed the École Nationale Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs, and from 2002 to 2008, the French Academy in Rome.

Richard Peduzzi has always maintained a deep connection with the Mobilier National, as evidenced by his first public furniture commission in 1989 for the Ministry of Agriculture.
